Beach Cleaning Drive
Imagine waking up with the sea breeze kissing your cheek, your first view is the clear water of the sea. How serene & amazing, isn’t it? But over the years, our deeds have resulted in pollution & damaged ecosystems…. Living in Mumbai, Ganesh Chaturthi is one festival celebrated with a lot of pomp & splendor. Twelve days of excitement, worship, blessings & enjoyment! But mind you, the after-effects aren’t so great! Every year hundreds of Ganpati Idols are immersed in the sea & so many of them return back to the land with arms, faces, tusks & many other parts broken. Not only do they affect the beauty of the beach but they also lead to so much resentment within us, seeing that these were the same idols we decorated just a day ago! While most of us just know how to comment, our School took the initiative, took one step ahead & encouraged us, students, to do what we could. And believe me; I’m so glad I was part of it. On 6th September 2017, our teachers Ms. Bijal Mehta & Ms. Shilpa Mistry accompanied us as we embarked on our journey with the promise of returning victorious. The Council of Utpal Shanghvi Global School had finally taken up the ‘Beach Clean-Up Drive’.
With gloves covering our hands & black garbage bags clenched within our fingers, we stepped onto the sand of ‘Silver Beach’. It took us a few moments just to comprehend the scene in front of us, with so much yet to clean! And soon we set off. Within a time span of just 45 minutes, we managed to gather enough dirt to fill 5 huge garbage bags! And as we dumped all of the bags into the garbage truck; the satisfaction, pride & happiness on our faces were unbelievable. We had done at least something for the city; for the environment & all of us knew this value would remain instilled in us for eternity. Thanks to a great initiative by our teachers & our beloved School.
